Some dental malocclusions in children need early treatment while some can wait for self-correction or better correction at teenage years. Early correction of some problems like thumb sucking and tongue thrusting is very important for your child’s jaw bone to be developed beautifully and to avoid the future need of braces.

If you are concerned about your child’s teeth and how they are developing, it is very important to bring your child for an orthodontic consultation. It could be a simple issue that could be fixed easily.<gwmw style="display:none;">

Oxfam supports innovative projects that invest in better health and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Islander people. So at the beginning of the year, Oxfam partnered with the Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS) to deliver the ‘Deadly Smiles’ project.

The Deadly Smiles project provides essential services around dental and oral health by emphasising the importance of healthy teeth and targeting and treating symptoms of mouth disease.

Dentist Dr. Dumi Medago leads the Deadly Smiles project and said the project was already getting lots of positive feedback from local community members.

“This project means quite a lot to me in few ways. It is not just a machine and materials (that) make teeth whiter. It is absolutely much more than that,” said Dumi

And he’s right. As a result of the project, local community members have quit smoking and gained the confidence in themselves to show off their deadly smiles in their workplace and around their family.

For his contribution to community, Dumi recently was a finalist for the Appreciation Award at Albury Wodonga NAIDOC Awards night, after being nominated by members of the Albury Wodonga Aboriginal community.

Members said that Dumi is “a bright, happy uplifting spirit to help relax his dental patients at AWAHS,” and “provides great dental care and education” and “prevents chronic illness through his dental care for our community”.

The Appreciation Award is presented to individuals who are non-Indigenous who have:

demonstrated commitment and contribution to benefit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over the long term, and demonstrated achievement in this area, and<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw>

demonstrated involvement in the Indigenous community at the local, regional and/or national levels.<gwmw style="display:none;">

Dumi joined the AWAHS team in 2011 and has enjoyed getting to know local Aboriginal people. When asked what his vision around Indigenous health was, Dumi said:

“It is a long journey. We need to go by holding hands with each other, but be strong and hold each other’s hands tightly — then you will achieve your goal”

As parents, the most important thing for us is the health of our children. Parents want to assure that their children are healthy, strong and energetic in every possible form. However, a common mistake most of the parents make is they do not pay enough attention to the oral care of their children. This is the reason that even after consuming a relatively healthy diet most of the children suffer from oral care health problems. Here we have some of the important oral care habits that you should teach your children from a very early stage of their lives.

Brushing the Teeth Twice

Most of the parents teach their children to brush in the morning after the breakfast but they ignore brushing the teeth at night. Brushing at night is equally or more important due to many reasons. Saliva flow is very low during sleep and it doesn’t clear the food particles or have the protective action during sleep. Leaving food particles in your mouth at night and the action of bacteria on these cause cavities in teeth. Therefore it is vital to brush and clean at night after the last meal of the day. Teach your children to avoid snacking after brushing and only to consume water before sleep.

Teach Them to Floss

It is important to teach your children that oral care routine will always be incomplete without flossing. When the teeth are growing closely together between the ages of 3 to 7 parents should help to floss until the children develop the manual dexterity. Children are ready to floss by themselves around the age of 10. There are many small food particles stuck in between the teeth those cannot be removed by brushing alone. Interdental cleaning such as flossing is important. With the help of floss, you will be able to remove all the particles that might lead to bad breath in the morning Flossing once daily is very important for proper oral care It is important that you teach your child the right technique of flossing. Teach them to floss in a way that the thread will not hurt their gums while cleaning the teeth.

Help Them with Healthy Food

Sweets are the biggest enemy of healthy teeth sweets should be limited to special occasions and consumed in limited quantities. Some children love to eat sweets and if you will stop them they will still keep eating sweets. It is better that parents try to teach children, how sweets can cause tooth decay and many other health problems. Allow them to have sweets but in a limited quantity and teach your child to clean their teeth after consumption of sweets. Introduce healthy snacks like fruits and veggies to kids as an alternative to sweet snacks. Limit intake of sugary drinks, fruit juices, acidic soft drinks and energy drinks. Encourage your children to drink plenty of water or milk. Cultivating healthy eating habits from early on life lays the foundation for generations of a healthy population.

Visit the Dentist Regularly

It is important to have your child’s first dental visit before the age of 3. Generally, the first dental visit should be 6 months after the emergence of the first baby tooth. This is to make sure you are doing the right things to help your child’s oral care health. An early introduction will help the children to get familiar with the dental setup and build up positive relationships with the dental care team. With older children make the dental visits a fun-filled positive experience. If they are already scared of dental visits as parents help them to overcome the fear of dentist by talking to them and positive role modelling.Teach them that dentist is their friend and only he can help to keep your teeth healthy. When your children will learn the importance of visiting the dentists they will surely go with you every time. It is the habit that will help your child to continue the routine even as an adult and when you are not there to take him to the dentist.

Key Message

If you teach your children all these habits at an early age they will develop these as a routine. Children will know that they have to follow oral care routine in order to maintain a healthy mouth and beautiful smile. You are the best role model for your children. Cultivate good oral care health habits as parents and your children will follow you.<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw></gwmw>

Your family dentist will know the issues that you have been dealing with. On your appointment, everything will be in place for treatment to begin. A family dentist knows the things that you are anxious about, and they understand your dental concerns and conditions. Therefore, they will plan the entire treatment according to your requirements and will provide you with the best dental care. You will feel like you are in the care of your loved ones when your family dentist is treating you.

Your Family Dentist Knows Your History

The biggest benefit of having a family dentist is that they know your family history.

You won’t have to explain your family history and dental issues every time.

It will get easier for you and the dentist to maintain all your dental records.

In case that you are experiencing a new problem, there are chances that the dentist will know the cause of the issue.

Just by looking at your condition your dentist will understand what you have been dealing with.

Your Family Has a Trusted Relationship With the Dentist<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;">

It’s essential that you have a trusted relationship with your dentist. Trust can only come with a long-term commitment. When you visit the same dentist your entire life, there are chances that your kids will trust the same dentist. As long as the dentist continues to provide reliable services your children will likely keep visiting that dentist.

Access Emergency Care When You Need It

Dental emergencies can happen anytime. Just imagine that at night your child fell off the bed and broke their front tooth. You can only trust your family dentist to provide advice about these emergency situations. If you call another dentist, there is no chance that dental professional will know the previous issues your child has been dealing with. Treatment, therefore, could become challenging.

Take Advantage of Available Discounts

One of the best things about having a family dentist is that you may be able to access exclusive discounts, paying less as compared to other patients.

We’d Love to Be Your Dentist!

If you don’t have a dentist yet, we would be honoured if you would consider us as your new dental care provider. At our beautiful dental clinic, we provide exceptional care for the entire family. Here, you will find quality, confidence, reliability and outstanding customer service. Whether you’re seeking general dentistry or advanced cosmetic dentistry, our friendly, dedicated team can help make your dental experience a fantastic one!<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw></gwmw></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;">

At Officer Dental Care, we are passionate about providing the highest quality dentistry that fits your budget. That’s why we gladly accept all major health funds. Are you aware of all of the fantastic benefits that come with joining a private health insurance fund? To access all of the benefits of your policy, it’s a good idea to set aside time to review it.

As many fund benefits will not roll over to the next calendar year, you only have a few more months to ensure that you get the most out of your health fund in 2018. Don’t miss out on significant entitlements!

See What Extras You Are Entitled to

For example, HCF members get a wholly covered checkup per calendar year. It’s always important, of course, to check with your health fund to determine your level of cover and entitlements. As we are preferred providers for HCF and NIB, there also could be annual limits to consider for major dental.

Get a Ready-for-the-Holidays Smile

With seasonal celebrations on the horizon, from work parties to holiday get-togethers with family and friends, you want to look your best. A beautiful smile can dramatically enhance your appearance. As many of our suppliers and labs are winding down in December in advance of the holidays, contact us straightaway to schedule your appointments.

If you would like advice on how to get the most benefit from your health fund or need answers about services you wish to have, contact us today. We want to ensure that you access all of your health fund benefits!<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw>

Would you like to transform your teeth into a set of beautiful pearly whites? You can with Zoom, one of the most well-known whitening brands on the market today. Years of drinking coffee, red wine or tea can tarnish teeth. But with Zoom teeth whitening, you can get a whiter, brighter smile quickly, safely, and with less sensitivity.

Experience Dramatic Results

We offer both in-chair whitening and take-home kits, both of which will give you brilliant results. Your teeth will be at least eight shades whiter after in-chair treatment, giving you a confidence-boosting smile you’ve always wanted. With the take-home option, you’ll be given a custom whitening tray, fitted by your dentist, allowing you to achieve a noticeably whiter smile in just seven days.

What Does the In-Chair Whitening Process Involve?

To get the best whitening results possible, it’s essential that your mouth be clean and healthy before the whitening process begins. Our hygienist will clean your teeth to ensure all gums are healthy and teeth are free of superficial stains. Generally, it is desirable (but not always necessary) to have the following performed prior to whitening:

all areas of decay cleaned and sealed

all gum disease treated and gums in a healthy state<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;">

all leaking and broken fillings sealed<gwmw style="display:none;">

teeth free of pain and sensitivity.<gwmw style="display:none;">

Next, one of our dentists will perform a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums and mouth. We will take X-rays of your back teeth to make sure there is no decay lurking between them. Your gums then will be covered, so they are protected during the whitening process. We then will apply a whitening gel solution to your teeth to bleach them using hydrogen or carbamide peroxide. To speed up the whitening process, an LED light will be used.

You also can extend your results with a touch-up home whitening kit.

Enhance your appearance and make a fantastic first impression with Zoom teeth whitening at our practice. Contact us today to book an appointment!<gwmw style="display:none;">

As Invisalign is considered the world’s most advanced clear teeth aligning system, we often are asked questions about it. Here are some FAQ to help you make your smile-straightening decision.

What is Invisalign?

This clear alternative to traditional metal braces uses a series of transparent plastic aligners to help people obtain a beautiful, straight and photo-worthy smile. The aligners need to be worn 22 hours a day and can be removed to eat and brush your teeth.

Is Invisalign comfortable?

In general, Invisalign is highly comfortable, but you may experience a bit of discomfort at different times such as when your teeth are shifting. When you place and remove the aligners, you also may feel mild discomfort.

Can you give me a quote over the phone?

No; the reason we don’t provide treatment quotes over the phone is that we need to examine you first to determine if you will require a lengthier treatment time. For example, a patient may have a more severe misalignment and need an extended course of treatment. If in your particular case, it’s necessary that your teeth move more, your treatment will usually cost more.

How can I decide which dental practitioner I should see?

Like most people, you probably want a professional who is highly experienced, friendly and offers reasonably priced care. Our dentists provide that and more. We are honoured to have received many five-star reviews. If you select us to be your dental care provider, rest assured that you will receive the highest quality care.

Are there other clear aligner systems appliances apart from Invisalign?

Yes, there are; however, at Officer Dental Care, we use only Invisalign as it gives patients excellent, predictable results. We encourage you to book a consultation with one of our dentists so that we can equip you with the information necessary to decide if Invisalign is right for you.

Is Invisalign better than braces?

We don’t have a simple answer to that as it all depends. For example, in some instances treatment using a clear aligner system is advised, while in other situations, conventional metal braces are the best option. For other individuals, lingual braces are the optimal choice. When you come in for a consultation with one of our dentists, you will receive information about the various teeth-straightening options.

If you have additional questions about Invisalign, please contact Officer Dental Care today!<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;">

Our warm and compassionate dental team here at Officer Dental Care provides gentle dental care to children of all ages. Kids can feel right at home in our upbeat and friendly environment. To help them feel even more comfortable, we encourage you to bring your young child along to either your appointments or those for their older siblings. Doing so helps your young child to become more familiar with our practice, team, and the types of equipment we use.

Visiting the Dentist Is Fun

We make visits enjoyable for our young patients by providing free rides in the dental chair, offering brushing lessons, and giving out goodie bags with oral health care gifts.

Our Children’s Services

Here are some of the oral health promoting services we provide to kids:

General checkups

Preventative care

Emergency care

Early intervention orthodontic treatment

Custom designed mouthguards

Various assessments (jaw, tooth development, thumb sucking and more)<gwmw style="display:none;">

Starting Healthy Habits Young<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;">

Looking after your child’s teeth from an early age is critical for their future health and wellbeing. If they cultivate healthy habits from a young age, they could avoid having extensive dental work as adults.

We encourage you to bring your child in for their first dental checkup as soon as their baby teeth start to emerge (usually between 6 and 18 months). During that first checkup, we will assess your child’s teeth, gums and development patterns. You and your child also will get tips on brushing, flossing and smile-friendly foods to keep their teeth healthy.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule

Did you know that your child may be eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule? The CDBS provides financial support of up to $1000 for basic dental services for children between 2 and 17 years of age. If you’re not sure if your child is eligible, please contact our practice.<gwmw style="display:none;">

Have you heard that you can access your superannuation to pay for dental care? Early Release of Superannuation (ERS) has been handled by the Australian Tax Office since 2018. They’ve made it straightforward for you to apply for ERS, making it simpler than ever to get the dental care you need.

If you’ve been avoiding dental care due to costs and have experienced a lower quality of life, you may be eligible for ERS. You can also use your superannuation to cover dental treatments for one of your dependants. One of the most popular forms of dental care that people use their superannuation for is dental implants.

Why Might You Need Dental Implants?

If you’re missing one tooth, several teeth or all of your teeth, you’ve probably missed out on eating your favourite foods. You may feel embarrassed about the appearance of your smile. Your self-esteem has likely decreased. Dental implants are the most revolutionary way to replace your teeth.

The advantages of getting a dental implant include

A high success rate

Blend in with your natural teeth

Doesn’t negatively affect your other teeth

Easily maintained

Most people are candidates

Protect Your Oral Health<gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;"></gwmw><gwmw style="display:none;">

Getting a dental implant can mean that you feel more confident, regain your social life and can enjoy all the foods that you love. If you do not replace a missing tooth, you can face grave consequences. Your other teeth can drift into the gap where your tooth has been lost. They may shift out of place and cause serious problems. That’s why it’s essential to look into tooth replacements such as dental implants if you’re missing teeth.

Contact Officer Dental Care today to schedule your consultation for dental implants or to discuss ERS!<gwmw style="display:none;">
