The maintenance of PVC-U windows & doors is very simple. They can be cleaned using a soft, damp sponge, soaked if required in a non-abrasive household detergent. Never use an abrasive product, corrosive liquids or solvents.
Clean the glass inside and out as normal. The space between panes is sealed against dust and moisture, so never needs cleaning.
Sashes and Frames
A simple wash with soapy water will keep your uPVC frames looking new for decades. If your windows or doors have Colonial or Federation bars, the bars are sealed between the two panes of glass so you never need to clean them or collect dust.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Do not clean the windows with a dry cloth, to avoid scratching the surface.
- Never paint uPVC profiles
Tilt n Turn Windows
As the sashes in tilt n turn windows open inwards, cleaning is a breeze. No need for ladders as all the cleaning can be done from the inside.
Maintenance of the Gaskets
It is advisable to powder the seals with talc once a year so that they retain their flexibility. This will also give them an increased length of life. They should not, however, be allowed to come into contact with concentrated detergents or with products manufactured from them.
Maintenance of Hardware
The uPVC windows and doors are fitted with high quality hardware. In order to make it work properly, all the moving parts should be checked at least once per year and lubricated if necessary. In addition, the tilt and turn mechanism might have to be adjusted occasionally: Energy Efficient Windows Australia can carry out this work if necessary.
