The beauty of design is that there are so many different textures and materials you can explore when creating beautiful architecture. Here at EE Windows, we especially love the intricate, unique and functional aspect of glass being used when designing and constructing buildings. We wanted to share some of the most beautiful glass buildings around the world with you:
PRADA STORE, JAPAN
This building doubles as an architectural piece of art that can be found in the fashionable Aoyama district in Tokyo, Japan. It’s comprised of concave, convex and flat panels of glass in its diamond-quilted structure. This gives a soft, rippling motion to the building’s otherwise sharp edges. Designed by Herzog and de Meuron’s, this building comes from both beauty AND brains, as it’s visually interactive with the bubbles of glass distorting your view from both the inside and the outside within and without, subtly playing with the eye of both customers and passing by.
CITY HALL, LONDON

In an egg-like shape, the City Hall building appears to be a tight ball of “architectural muscle” by day then as the sun sets, the building is transformed as it lights up and it’s dramatic interior shines through.
This iconic building holds a symbolic meaning, signifying the expression of transparency within the democratic process. It values the potential for a wholly sustainable, virtually non-polluting public building.
NATIONAL GRAND THEATRE OF CHINA

Aka the Bird’s Egg, is an opera house in Beijing designed by French architect Paul Andreu. It received its nickname due to the fact that it has the resemblance of an egg floating on the water. The theatre is an ellipsoid dome of titanium and glass that’s surrounded by an artificial lake
NETHERLANDS INSTITUTE FOR SOUND AND VISION

A little more eclectic than the others, this glorious building is one of the most unique contraptions in the world. It’s designed in the shape of a cube and is covered with cast-glass coloured panels and has a total of 10 floors with half of them being underground! The view of the building at night is completely mesmerising, this is one to add to your bucket list. This building doubles as a museum and an archive which houses most of the audiovisual materials produced in the country.
THE PYRAMID DU LOUVRE, FRANCE

Undoubtedly one of the most famous glass buildings in the world, the Louvre Pyramid has a rich history where it resides in Paris, France. The iconic glass construction was designed by architect I. M. Pei and for the last few centuries, it has been a public museum, which occupies the majority of the building. The art inside is amongst the most prestigious and famous in the world, attracting millions of visitors every year!
